Love Beneath the Shadows

Starring: Lee Jea Wook as Kang Han-sol, Shin So-Hyun as Yoon Ji-ho

[CINEMATIC OPENING]

A slow drone shot glides over the rain-slicked neon signs of Itaewon’s back alleys, then descends into the silence of The Goraekage—an old, forgotten vinyl record shop buried beneath a shuttered karaoke bar. Inside, dust dances in a single beam of light. And behind the counter sits Kang Han-sol (Lee Jea Wook), a former crime scene reconstructor who now fixes broken record players. He hasn’t spoken to another soul in fourteen months. Not since he failed to save his younger sister from a serial killer who was never caught.

[THE MEETING]

One night, a woman stumbles through the shop’s cracked glass door—Yoon Ji-ho (Shin So-Hyun), a quiet, meticulous archivist from the National Forensic Service. She carries a yellowed cassette tape labeled only with a date: the night Han-sol’s sister disappeared. Ji-ho claims she’s researching cold cases for a documentary. But her trembling hands and the way she flinches at sudden shadows suggest another truth: she was the killer’s intended fourth victim. She escaped. Han-sol’s sister did not.

[THE CENTRAL CONFLICT]

Together, they begin an unauthorized investigation, using Han-sol’s forensic eye and Ji-ho’s access to sealed evidence. They discover the killer—now using the alias Ahn Gwang-ok—has become a beloved neighborhood psychiatrist. Worse, he’s running a secret “grief therapy” group for families of the unsolved murders he committed. Han-sol must infiltrate the group as a broken man, with Ji-ho as his fake wife. But living a lie in such close quarters ignites a raw, dangerous love—one that the killer immediately recognizes as a threat.

[THE TWIST]

Halfway through the series (episode 5 of 8), Ji-ho uncovers a hidden VHS tape inside the psychiatrist’s office wall. It shows not the killer, but Han-sol’s own father—handing over his daughter in exchange for a gambling debt erased. Han-sol’s sister was not a random target. She was payment. And Ji-ho was never an archivist. She was the killer’s former patient, sent years ago to watch Han-sol’s meltdown and report back. But she betrayed her mission when she fell in love with him.

[EMOTIONAL TENSION & BETRAYAL]

Confrontation erupts in the record shop’s basement. Rain pounds on the street grate above. Ji-ho sobs, confessing her original role. Han-sol smashes a vinyl of Clair de Lune—his sister’s favorite—and whispers, “You’re the only ghost I still believe in.” He doesn’t forgive her. But he doesn’t leave. Because the final episode’s trap is already set: the psychiatrist has invited the “grief group” to a remote retreat in the Taebaek mountains. The killer’s endgame is not to kill again—but to force Han-sol to choose between saving Ji-ho or avenging his sister.

[DARK & INTRIGUING ENDING]

Love Beneath the Shadows closes not with a trial or a gunshot, but with a single unbroken shot: Han-sol standing in a snowstorm, holding a bloody audio recorder. On it is Ji-ho’s voice, recorded ten minutes earlier: “If you’re listening to this, I told him you were the one who got away. So get away. Don’t let my shadow become yours.”

The screen cuts to black. Then, one heartbeat of silence. Then the soft crackle of a vinyl needle dropping. A woman’s breath. And a new date, stamped in red: Tonight.

End of series pitch.
